New for 2010, the HDR-XR550V is a high-definition camcorder from Sony that packs a punch with a whopping 240GB of built-in storage. This camera not only boasts impressive video recording specs, with 1920 x 1080 full high-def resolution, Shake Canceling, and 1080/60p playback via HDMI. It also doubles as a pretty impressive still camera, too, offering 12 full megapixels of resolution. It's even got a dual mode so you can do both at once. Sony pulled out the stops on this model, loading it with everything from a built-in GPS receiver to a 3.5-inch super-fine LCD, to Dolby Digital sound and a wide-angle G lens. Unless you need the hard-drive storage, we recommend looking at the cheaper CX550, which uses flash and is smaller to boot.
