Sony's 2015 CX440 offers quite a few features for the average consumer, yet still sits at an affordable $300.
Video quality certainly isn't sacrificed to keep the price low. The Sony CX440 can shoot 1080p HD video at a smooth 60 fps frame rate. The 50 Mbps bit size is excellent, and while it means larger files, it offers an additional edge in video quality. Toss in a 30x zoom plus optical image stabilization and the CX440 is pretty flexible, suitable for even challenging subjects like sports.
Equipped with intelligent auto modes for easy shooting, the CX440 isn't without advanced features either. Backlight compensation is available for tricky lighting. And while most will use the auto focus, manual focus is available too.
Video can be recorded to the 8 GB of built-in memory, or to a mini SD card. That larger 50 Mbps will fill up that 8 GB of memory pretty quick, so most will want to keep an extra card or two handy.
Wi-fi and NFC offer easy sharing through a smartphone. The Sony app will also allow users to use their smartphone as a second screen to view the footage and trigger the camera remotely. Live streaming is even possible using the Ustream platform.
Considering the $300 price point, the Sony CX440 is a very well-rounded video camera, ideal for home videos or even shooting for YouTube.
