Black Friday is known for deals in electronics, and camcorders are no exception. Black Friday camcorder deals are often listed much lower than retail, and many are available both in store and online. Ready to fight the crowds or surf in your jammies? We've rounded up the best 2014 Black Friday camcorder deals for you.
Before you head out...
Camcorder HQ lists the best prices from several online retailers—24/7/365, not just black Friday. Before heading out to the store or finalizing your online shopping cart, check out that camcorder's product page to get a quick snapshot of what other retailers are selling it for. Many online retailers don't publish their sales ahead of time, so it's a good idea to check before you buy.
Be sure to check out the reviews. Just because a camcorder is a “good deal” doesn't mean it's a good product. Perhaps even more importantly, check and see if it has all of the features you would use in the footage you shoot the most.
Don't be afraid of last year's models—in fact, a lot of Black Friday electronics deals are for older models. That's not a bad thing if you get a good price. Sometimes, older advanced models can be picked up for less than newer but not-quite-so-advanced options. Just compare both the old model and the new one to make sure you're not missing out on a big feature.
The most popular mounted camera brand out there, the Go Pro Hero 3+ Silver edition is $249.99 at Best Buy, and it includes a touchscreen back accessory and memory card—both worth nearly another $100. It's last year's model, but the most notable upgrade in the Hero4 Silver is a built-in screen, but you get the screen as an add-on in this Black Friday deal. It will be quite a bit bulkier than having the screen built in, but the $150 price difference will be worth it to some. Target has the same price with a $50 gift card, but doesn't toss in the extra accessories. If you want the newer version, Best Buy has it for a rather average $399, but you get a $50 gift card back. Both Best Buy and Target deals are available online and in-store.
For capturing action on a budget, the Sony AS20 is a good bet—especially at half off, $99 at Best Buy with a free memory card. Amazon has it for $98, but doesn't include the card. It offers 1080/60p recording with a 170 degree angle of view, image stabilization, wi-fi and a waterproof casing.
The backlit sensor and bright lens should translate into decent video quality for a budget camera—especially considering the black Friday price of $129.99 at Best Buy ($100 off), with a free 16 GB memory card. It's even a 2014 model.
The Sony HDR-CX330 is quite similar to the CX240. It offers a larger zoom and wi-fi for easier sharing, so you'll want to consider which option will be better for you. Best Buy has it for $219.99 in stores and online.
The Canon Vixia HF R500 is another good budget camcorder. While it doesn't include fancy features like wi-fi or built-in memory, it offers a 57x advanced zoom, optical image stabilization, recording in 28 and 35 Mbps, and a decent sensor and lens. Best Buy is the winner again at $169.99 with a 32 GB memory card.
